Tamworth Map, Wall Sconces & Knives
Local items are always a favorite and this week we have two special items that are from the area!
The first item is a reproduction of “A Plan of the Town of Tamworth, NH”. This Tamworth Proprietor’s Map, was originally drawn by James Hersey in 1775, and copied by Samuel Hale (date unknown). The original map is now owned by the NH Historical Society. The copy I have available for sale (see Tamworth Map photo) was drawn by Marion L. Nickerson, a local Tamworth historian. We estimate she may have drawn this map in the 1970’s as Marion Nickerson passed away in 1993, at the age of 84. This copy we have for sale is newly framed with a simple black border, and the map measures approximately 23 x 17 inches. Here’s an interesting note: on the map, it refers to an old-fashioned measure of distance because the scale on the map is 10 rods to one tenth of an inch.

Next to offer, we have a pair of wall sconces designed and made by the late Dereck Marshall of Sandwich, NH. Dereck was a highly respected and well-liked artisan in the area. He originally started as a potter and moved into lighting and glass although he tried many different types of art during his lifetime. The wall sconces are in very good condition, are made of pottery and painted a metallic gold color. They come with the original wall fittings and are ready to be installed. They are very unique and I believe one of a kind (See Marshall Sconces photo). The picture does not do them justice!

Another interesting item is a set of ten lovely table knives with cream colored handles. This set of ten is in very good condition. These are made in England with stainless steel blades. Stamped on the blade, it says: James Dixon & Sons, LTD Sheffield. We believe the handles are Bakelite. They are ready to be put on your table and will enhance any table setting immeasurably.
